Further Education

WCL have worked with over 70 leading Colleges in England, applying our extensive experience and knowledge to help our clients innovate.  For example, we are working with a number of Colleges to apply Private Sector practices to increase learner recruitment and retention.  At the AoC conference, 15-17 November, WCL Managing Director Kieron White presented our approach to developing capabiities to improve the 'learner journey', identifying key improvement areas, including:

  • Strategies to efficiently recruit and retain learners;
  • Techniques for assessing and developing the employer 'customer experience' leading to an increase in private-funded (fully funded) delivery; and
  • Ideas and learning points from the very best practice in colleges and private sector businesses.

WCL are currently working with over 20 Colleges on strategic challenges such as: Mergers; Governor Engagement; Senior Management Development; and Strategic Option Reviews.  We have also been involved in a number of innovative HAF bids.

WCL are also working with groups of Colleges to develop models of Collaborative Ownership that allow sharing of services between colleges to achieve efficiencies and improve effectiveness. This means freeing up resources and senior management time in Colleges to focus on teaching and learning.  The Collaborative Ownership model allows Colleges to remain firmly in strategic control of their services, while encouraging more focused service delivery to a wider range of partners resulting in even greater economies of scale.
